United States: Recent findings caution that the consumption of fashionable plant-derived meats might be linked to infrequent health complications in individuals favouring authentic meat consumption.
A recent study, as documented in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, juxtaposed the effects of protein substitutes, scientifically labelled as plant-based meat analogs (PBMAs), against genuine meat dishes. The outcomes, as per experts, were not entirely favourable.
Over an eight-week period of scrutiny, it emerged that genuine beef furnished a higher protein content compared to its synthetic counterpart. However, it was noted to contain elevated levels of sodium, posing concerns for individuals grappling with hypertension.
“These findings imply that presumptions regarding the health advantages of consuming plant-based meats may not be readily applicable to adherents of a plant-based dietary regimen,” remarked the researchers.
Prior investigations have indicated limited health advantages of plant-based diets over corresponding animal-derived foods.
In a separate study, adherence to veganism was observed to elevate female libido by up to 380%.
The medical revelations coincide with a decline in sales experienced by the prominent brand Beyond Meat. The company has recently endeavoured to reduce the fat content of its offerings by 60%.
Despite ongoing debate, advocates such as Bill Gates remain steadfast in their support for meat alternatives.
“I anticipate that these products will eventually achieve significant quality, notwithstanding their current modest market share,” Gates asserted in a recent online dialogue with Redditors.
